  • Description:
Tshewang Phuntsho currently serves as a Lecturer and Head of the Research Centre at the Gedu College of Business Studies, Royal University of Bhutan. He holds a Ph.D. in Green Science and Engineering (Data Science) from Sophia University, Japan, where his research centred on Hybridization Frameworks for Computational Intelligence in Financial Combinatorial Optimizations. He also earned an M.Sc. in Mathematical Engineering (Applied Finance and Optimization/Data Analytics) from the University of L’Aquila, Italy, and a B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy from Hiram College, USA, complemented by a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from the Royal University of Bhutan.\\\\r\\\\nDr. Phuntsho’s research integrates computational intelligence, optimization techniques, and data analytics to address complex problems in finance, operations, and decision sciences. His scholarly work explores the development of hybrid metaheuristic frameworks, dynamic programming, and machine learning algorithms for optimizing project scheduling, financial modelling, and resource allocation. His contributions to computational optimization and artificial intelligence have appeared in renowned Scopus-indexed journals such as Connection Science (Taylor & Francis), IEEE Access, Algorithms (MDPI), Knowledge-Based Systems (Elsevier), and the Journal of Scheduling (Springer). He has also presented at several international conferences, including the International Conference on Intelligent Data Communication Technologies and Internet of Things (IDCIoT), Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing Conference (AICCC), and the International Conference on Information and Education Technology (ICIET).\\\\r\\\\nWith more than a decade of academic experience, Dr. Phuntsho has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Business Mathematics, Business Statistics, Operations Research, Quantitative Techniques, Mathematics for Managerial Decision-Making, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, and Financial Management. He has delivered guest lectures at esteemed institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi (mathematics Department), India, the University of Valencia (Alcoi Campus), Spain, and IMS Unison University, India, sharing his insights on computational intelligence and optimization in data-driven decision-making.\\\\r\\\\nDr. Phuntsho’s academic journey has been distinguished by several prestigious awards and scholarships. He is a recipient of the Japanese Government’s Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) to pursue his doctoral studies in Japan, the Royal Government of Bhutan Scholarship to pursue his undergraduate degree in the United States, the Abruzzo Regional Grant from Italy to pursue Master degree, and multiple Annual University Research Grants (AURG) from the Royal University of Bhutan. He also received the Herbert L. Jones Memorial Award in Mathematics and the International Student Scholarship from Hiram College, USA.\\\\r\\\\nHe has participated in several international training programmes and workshops that strengthened his technical and analytical capabilities, including the Introduction to Julia Programming and Quantum Computing and High-Performance Computing courses organised by Cineca Academy in Italy, as well as workshops on Data Analytics in Business Research, Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods, and STATA for Data Analysis jointly organised by the Royal University of Bhutan, Griffith University (Australia), the National Statistics Bureau, and the World Bank Country Office in Bhutan. His early exposure to environmental economics through the Summer Seminar on Going Green: Free Market Environmentalism by the Foundation for Economic Education in the USA further shaped his multidisciplinary outlook.\\\\r\\\\nDr. Phuntsho is proficient in a wide array of programming and analytical tools, including Fortran, Julia, Matlab/Octave, Python, R, Scala, Weka, LaTeX, STATA, SPSS, Scala-Spark, Apache Hadoop, Maplesoft, Gretl, and Microsoft Excel, along with extensive experience in big data analytics, stochastic modelling, and parallel computing. His interdisciplinary background, encompassing mathematical engineering, artificial intelligence, and applied finance, enables him to design and implement advanced optimization frameworks that combine theoretical rigour with practical relevance.\\\\r\\\\nA committed researcher and educator, Dr. Phuntsho’s ongoing scholarly pursuits revolve around AI-augmented decision-making, computational and financial optimization, machine learning for complex system modelling, and sustainable business intelligence systems. His work continues to contribute to the advancement of data-driven, computationally intelligent approaches to economic and managerial problem-solving in both academic and applied contexts.
