13th Foundation Day

Gedu College of Business Studies (GCBS) celebrated the 13th College Foundation Day on 14th October 2021.

Lam Penjor of Laptsakha Lhakhang, Gedu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The day commenced with flag hoisting & National Anthem, Marchang, recitation of Zhabtoen followed by cake cutting ceremony at college auditorium stage.

Sonam Choiden (PhD), President of the College warmly greeted and welcomed the guests of Honour, Staff & Students gathered in the hall.

The President mentioned about His Majesty’s tireless and selfless service to safeguard the people of Bhutan from the COVID-19 pandemic situations. She also mentioned that with the blessings of the Triple Gem, the protection of our Guardian deities, prayers conducted by His Holiness the Je Khenpo and the monastic body; we are able to gather today to celebrate this important occasion, the 13th College Foundation Day, 2021.

She said that since the inauguration of the college on 13th of October 2008 by Her Royal Highness Gyalyum Azhi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, about 4000 students have graduated as of now and are serving the country in various capacities in different organizations including the private sector.

“On this important occasion, we are also reminded of the purpose of establishment of the college to contribute towards knowledge development of the students so that they become competent and compassionate after they graduate and are capable to serve the society they live in. We also urge the students to take the opportunities provided by the college to groom themselves”, said the President.

The President in her concluding remarks thanked the Chief Guest, Officials, Staff and Students present to mark the important occasion.

Although the College Foundation Day itself looked a little different this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, our staff and students relished the opportunity to display their talent through performance of variety show including chham dance, musical chair for staff and balloon dance for students.

Unlike in the past, the college also recognized the community partners, particularly the canteen owners, who have supported the college during the COVID-19 pandemic situations through award of appreciation certificate and prizes. The programme ended with lucky draw and award of prizes for winners followed by vote of thanks by Tandin Wangchuk-FERIC.

The guests, faculty, staff and students were served delicious lunch in the college canteen and student mess respectively. The college currently has 65 faculty, 70 administrative staff, and a total of 1617 students for the 2020-2021 academic session.
