GCBS Celebetates 12th Foundation Day

Gedu College of Business Studies (GCBS) celebrated the 12th Foundation Day on 14th October 2020.

Led by Laptsakha Lam & team, the day commenced with the lighting of butter lamps, recitation of Bum and Pelden Lhamo prayers at Semkyid Tshokhang followed by flag hoisting and cake cutting ceremony.

“This is the most meaningful way of celebrating our 12th Foundation Day during this difficult COVID-19 pandemic”, said Dr.Sonam Choiden, President of the College.

“I would also like to honour our founding members as we reflect on the commitment, resilience, and dedication they displayed to see their vision of the college come to reality”, she added.

“As we march onward and forward in fulfilling our common goals, let us all pray that GCBS, forever, remain blessed and continue building national human capital in the business and management areas to take Bhutan to greater heights”, the President added in her concluding remarks.

Ms. Dorji Choden, a first-year student was standing right in front of the canteen during lunch break when I introduced myself to her. My first question was what is your good name? How are you feeling in college? I noticed in her tone that her description of her journey to the college and her experiences till now contained extreme satisfaction. She said that the trip was so typical, and the campus is now so familiar, that when the memory of her first time riding the bus on 19th September 2020, she said that she almost cried out of excitement.

“The days at college are moving so much faster than any other year of my life. I’ve met so many new and wonderful people, and built up a friend group of people who are struggling with the same things as I am; we support each other, and they’re always there for me. I also learned new terminologies like nervous point”, she said with a controlled smile on her face.

“I feel so accomplished when I’m able to walk up to someone in the cafeteria and say hi! In the beginning, I was lost in a sea of strangers, but now I recognize so many faces’, she said.

At the end of the conversation, she said that she will take part in the prayer recitation programme on the 12th College Foundation Day and also thanked me for approaching her in a friendly tone.

Unlike in the past, the College Foundation Day celebration was designed to meet the protocols of the COVID-19 situation and without entertainment programmes. The faculty, staff, and students of the college were served delicious lunch in the college canteen and student mess respectively. The programme for the day ended at 5.00 pm.
