Ms. Sonam Choiden is the President of Gedu College of Business Studies (GCBS), Royal University of Bhutan (RUB). She is the first and the only female president in the Royal University of Bhutan. Currently, she serves as the member of the Academic Board, University Strategic Response Committee, Research and Innovation Committee of the Royal University of Bhutan.

She also serves as the Board Director for Thimphu TechPark Ltd (TTPL), A DHI owned company; Chairs the Board Audit Committee; Chairs the subject committee (Accountancy & Commerce) for Royal Education Council (REC); Editor, GNH Journal of Construction, Technology and Management for the Construction Development Board. Earlier served as the Board Director for Construction Development Corporation Ltd (2017-2019)

Internationally, she serves as the World Wellbeing Panel member; Executive Board Director for Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA). Previously served as the Quality Assessment Expert for Research Performance in South East Asian Universities (REPESEA) (2017-18).

Sonam attained her BA Economics (honours) from Delhi University, Sherubtse College (1995) and PGCE from Samtse College of Education (1997). She later received her MMS in Economics from University of Waikato, New Zealand (2005) and her PhD from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Business School, Brisbane, Australia (2016). Her thesis was on “Economics of Happiness: an insight into the Gross National Happiness in Bhutan”. She was the recipient of Australian Leadership Award (2011)
